NIN makes a 'Ghost' of the record machine (msnbc)

“Trent Reznor sold 2,500 copies of the deluxe CD box version of this new music and sold them out instantly at $300 a pop. That’s $750,000.”

It would be so hard to persuade a label to release a $300 version of your record. Think of how much unmet desire will finally be realized when big labels have been cut out of the picture.

I think the biggest obstacle sits in the minds of the artists. They need to gain the confidence to work without a major label — to truly act, as entrepreneurs, with a total conviction that they can do it without teaming up with a big company.

 Dang.
